The beginning of activities of the Center was announced in the fall of 1994.
In 1994-95 the Center focused on the support of scientific conferences and schools,
as well on providing fellowships for young researchers, permanently living and
working in Russia, and specializing in theoretical physics.
The Center has considered 26 applications for financial support of conferences
and schools on fundamental physics to be held in Russia with a representative
participation of physicists belonging to various scientific schools. Partial
financial support within the range of 3000-5000 USD has been provided by the
Center for twelve scientific conferences and schools.
These funds were granted primarily to cover the travel and living expenses of
Russian participants.
In the initial stage the Scientific Council has decided
to limit the research program to the support of postgraduate students and postdocs
in the area of theoretical physics. The Center has nevertheless received a total
of 700 individual applications from postgraduate students aged under 30 and from
postdocs who are under 33 and who received their degree after 1988.
The Center awarded 102 fellowships to the applicants
from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Ekaterinburg,
Perm, Ryazan, Voronezh, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don, Cheboksary and Yaroslavl.
The financial support has been provided in the form of grants.
In 1996 it was decided to continue both programs: the financial support
of conferences and schools on fundamental physics to be held in Russia, and the
support of postgraduate students and postdocs in the area of theoretical physics.
As a result the Council found it possible to continue the first program till
May 1997 and to give a support for all six conferences
and schools, which had applied. Also based on the Annual Repots by the
applicants the Council selected the best 51 individual
projects from among those supported in 1995, which still obey the conditions
required by the Center, to be supported in 1996 at the same level as in 1995.
In 1995-1996, the Center has been financed by:
- INTAS, the EU program for Eastern Europe;
- The Tomalla Foundation (Switzerland);
- The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the Swedish Ministry of Education;
- The Ministry of Science and Technology Policy of Russia.
In 1997 the Center continued the program of the support
scientific conferences and schools.
The Center has received 22 applications and allocated a financial
support to 15 scientific conferences and schools
that provide a broad representation of various scientific schools in
the field of fundamental physics, organized on the territory of Russia.
The financial means provided by the Center were destinated to pay the travel
and living expenses of participants from Russia.
In 1997, the activities of the Center were financed by the Ministry of
Science and Technological Policy of Russian Federation.
In 1998 the Center continued the program of the support on
a competitive basis of the research projects of young scientists permanently
working and living in Russia (joint project INTAS Ref.No.96-0457).
The limited financial abilities of
the Center forced the Scientific Council to reduce the program only
to consideration of the research projects in the field of theoretical
physics of young scientists without any scientific degree under the
age 30. The program is planned for two years. In March 1998 the
Scientific Council of ICFPM considered about 100 applications from
Moscow, Sankt-Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod,
Tomsk, Vladivostok, Saratov, Voronezh, Rostov na Donu, Irkutsk,
Izhevsk, Kazan, Makhachkala, Ryazan', Dubna, Troitsk, Obninsk,
Protvino, Chernogolovka. The stipends of the Center (approximately
900 US dollars per year) were awarded to 32 young scientists.
In 1998, the activities of the Center were financed by INTAS.
In 1999 the Center continued the program of the support
scientific conferences and schools.
The Center has received 35 applications and allocated a financial
support to 24 scientific conferences and schools
that provide a broad representation of various scientific schools in
the field of fundamental physics, organized on the territory of Russia.
The financial means provided by the Center were destinated to pay the travel and living expenses of
participants from Russia.
The program started in 1998 of the support of the research projects in
the field of theoretical physics of young scientists
without any scientific degree under the age 30 was continued in 1999.
According to the results of evaluation of the annual reports a decision
on the continuation of stipends for 1999 was made for 28 young scientists.
It was found that one young scientist did not fulfil the conditions of the
program. Other three young scientists refused themselves from the
continuation of the project besause of the travel plans for 1999
incopmatible with the conditions of the program. The Scientific Council
of ICFPM therefore has suggested INTAS to redistribute the respective
stipends to other four candidates from the top of the reserve list
composed by the Council in 1998.
In 1999, the activities of the Center were financed by the Ministry of
Science and Technological Policy of Russian Federation and INTAS.

In 2000 the Center continued the program of the support
scientific conferences and schools.
The Center has received 34 applications and allocated a financial support to 15 scientific conferences and schools
that provide a broad representation of various scientific schools in
the field of fundamental physics, organized on the territory of Russia.
In 2000, the activities of the Center were financed by the Ministry of
Science and Technological Policy of Russian Federation.
Center has resumed its activity since 2002 after establishing close
contacts with the Dynasty Foundation headed by Dmitry Zimin (www.dynastyfdn.com).
There are currently 100 stipends for PhD students (young scientists without scientific degree),
100 stipends for undergraduate students, 30 grants for postdocs, 12 grants for doctors of sciences.
Since 2004, the Dynasty Foundation supports conferences in fundamental physics;
selection is again made by the Scientific Council of ICFPM.
In 2006 the Dynasty Foundation initiated a new program to support scientific schools
in modern physics with the scientific program worked out by the members of the
Scientific Council of ICFPM. The idea is to support annually schools in different
areas of physics.
Since 2005, the Dynasty Foundation in collaboration with ICFPM organizes
public lectures in fundamental physics.
Since 2007 the Dynasty Foundation supports one postoctoral position in the
Imperial College, London.
The position is for one year with an
additional financial support after return to Russia for another year (provided
scientific research at IMS is approved). The selection is made via open call with
the assistance of the Scientific Council, although the final decision is made by
the Imperial College, London
